Sydney Fitness Trainers Functional Training Protocols

I remember when the whole personal training scene was all about “functional training”. ( well at last for me).

The gym I was working in for 3 years was pushing a lot of courses about functional training that we needed to do in order to keep our continuing education requirements fulfilled.

Looking back now and knowing what I know about athletic performance and the correlation between body fat percentages and performance I think that a lot of the courses were inappropriate for the general population and even for the weekend warrior sportsman.

The fact is, in my opinion that the biggest benefit the majority of people can get in terms of functional training has to be to lower the body fat percentage. By reducing your body fat % to around 10% you will be more agile, faster and lighter on your feet. You will be able to jump higher, run faster and have better co- ordination for a longer period of time as you do not fatigue in as short amount of time as you would if you had a higher body fat percentage.

To reduce your body fat percentage you need to have a good nutrition plan. If you are working with a personal trainer, they should be able to provide you with some guidelines or advice or additional resources to be able to help you design a nutrition plan that will work for you.

When I work as a personal trainer in Sydney  and i need to address a clients nutrition situation there are a few options i will apply to the individual depending where they are in terms of fitness and body fat percentage. Just as a personal training exercise plan should be individualized, so to should the nutrition plan.

Things that need to be considered are your metabolic type, your age, weight, sex and lifestyle and your job as well as the amount and type of fitness training you do each week.
